CYP CLUB and UCT help keep the faith for Faith Mission Homeless Shelters
Members of the CYP CLUB joined up with UCT (United Commercial Travelers) volunteers to help Faith Mission homeless shelters by supporting "Keepin' the Faith," a cold weather community service drive held recently at Bar 23 in Columbus' Short North.
The event was sponsored by UCT, the CYP CLUB, and local radio station CD101. Nearly 100 volunteers turned out to help warm up Columbus by donating over 30 boxes of critically needed items for Faith Mission, including blankets, sheets, pillows and towels, as well as gloves, scarves and hats. Donations of $1,045 were also collected for Faith Mission - more than $700 of that from UCT's board members.
"A Wish Away"
Even young professionals can make wishes come true.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. And they're always looking for a little help to make the magic.
The Foundation has several opportunities to get involved, including becoming a "Wish-Granting Volunteer."
CityPulse: Columbus Historical Society is on the move
The Columbus Historical Society and COSI are pleased to announce the society's new location in COSI's building. The CHS has moved in, construction has started and the new gallery will open in February. The move to COSI comes in conjunction with the 200th birthday of Columbus.
"We are delighted the Columbus Historical Society will be joining us," said David E. Chesebrough, Ed. D., President and CEO of COSI. "We are excited to see the historical stories the CHS has to integrate our guests' experiences that will allow both COSI and our visitors to reflect on the abundant history of our great city of Columbus."
"The Columbus Historical Society is very excited about the expanded possibilities our new exhibit space at COSI provides, said Jeffrey H. Lafever, Executive Director of the Columbus Historical Society.
Charity Spotlight: Charity Newsies
Start spreading the news. Or should we say the "Newsies."
Charity Newsies has returned, which provides new clothes to Franklin County students in need in an effort to boost their confidence and encourage them to stay in school.
Every youngster that qualifies receives three pairs of pants, three shirts, six pairs of socks, six sets of underwear, one coat, a hat, gloves and shoes, which in total costs about $140.
Charity Newsies is best known for the special newspapers sold during the month of December. Volunteers are often spotted in the streets of Franklin County, reaching out to charitable passersby. Every penny goes toward the purchase of clothing for the Franklin County school children who need them.
Charity Spotlight: Holiday Wish
Young professionals have a wonderful opportunity to play Santa Claus and make wishes come true for local underprivileged kids.
At this year's Holiday Party, the CYP CLUB partnered with Franklin County Children Services for the Holiday Wish program, aimed at collecting toys for neglected and troubled youngsters.
The recent collaborative event netted a van full of toys for children who may otherwise have believed Saint Nick skipped them this year.
"We partnered with the CYP CLUB because they are a wonderful organization and members really seem to support the community and children and families," says Leesa Evans of Franklin County Children Services.
Young Professionals Seeing "Red"
A newly-restructured organization has community members seeing "red." The American Red Cross is re-launching its young professional group, which will now go by the name "ClubRED."
The first meeting on December 8 launched the organization into its new direction.
"We were previously 'Friends of the Red Cross' but changed the name after we created a new team structure, leadership team and organizational goals," says Kyle Harnden of the American Red Cross.
Charity Spotlight: Operation Feed
The holiday season is in full swing, further opening charitable hearts around the globe. Even right here in Central Ohio, many young professionals are looking for ways to roll up their sleeves and give the gift of time and service to our community.
The Columbus Young Professionals Club has discovered the perfect opportunity: The Mid-Ohio Foodbank's Operation Feed. And this is a great way for many professionals to involve their colleagues, companies, friends and family.
"Operation Feed is Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s annual community-wide food and funds drive," says Andrew Murphy, Operation Feed Campaign Manager.
