Charity Event Spotlight: FOODFIGHT 2012

Empty bellies continue to be a problem that fills our community more than many people realize. But the Mid-Ohio Foodbank is fighting back with FOODFIGHT, a community-wide dine-out day in partnership with over 50 area restaurants.

You can throw a few punches of your own at the problem ... by having a meal or even coffee with friends on Wednesday, June 20th to support the cause.

The CYP CLUB recently chatted with Andrew Murphy from the MOFB, who talked about FOODFIGHT and how young professionals can make a difference.

Chris Alexis: Tell us about FOODFIGHT.

Andrew Murphy: FOODFIGHT is Mid-Ohio Foodbank's fourth annual community-wide dine-out day. There's an awesome group of unique restaurants participating this year--casual to formal, coffee, pizza, deli, bakery, lounge...you name it. Simply pick one, then eat or drink there any time on Wednesday, June 20 – breakfast, lunch or dinner (coffee breaks, happy hour or late-night eats count, too!), and 5% of your check will help a struggling Ohioan.

CA: Why is it important to the community?

AM: All FOODFIGHT proceeds directly benefit the hungry through Operation Feed, Mid-Ohio Foodbank's annual community drive. With the changing face of hunger, these critically important funds could be helping your neighbor, co-worker or friend. 100% of each donation is used to provide food though pantries, soup kitchens and shelters right here in our community.

CA: How and why should young professionals get involved?

AM: What better way to enjoy the day than to eat and drink at one of our great local restaurants? All in the name of a good cause, too! Get a group of coworkers together for lunch, or round up friends for happy hour or dinner.

CA: Is there anything else you want to add?

AM: A diverse group of over 50 restaurants, with 150+ locations across all of central Ohio, are participating. A full list and restaurant profiles can be found at FoodFightHunger.org.
