Charity Spotlight: Capital Area Humane Society
Interview by Chris Alexis, CYP CLUB Newsletter Coordinator
The holiday season is in full swing and many people across the community and world are focused on family. And you know what? This may be the perfect time to add to your family. Countless numbers of abandoned, loving animals sit in shelters, eager to find caring people and a place to call home.
The Capital Area Humane Society is an ideal spot to meet the furry friend that suits you best and bring them into the warmth of your own home and family.
Young professionals with a soft spot for animals have an ideal opportunity here to STEP in and make a difference in the lives of these animals.
The Columbus Young Professionals Club spoke with Jessica Kendro, volunteer programs manager for the CAHS. Check out what she had to say and learn what opportunities you can take advantage of right away.

The spa, along with Jacob Neal Salon, is hosting a special fundraiser for Nationwide Children's Hospital. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. at Reverse Vanity, located at 861 North High Street. Attendance is limited to formal invite.
Giving Thanks for Your Connections
Written by Ryan Conway, CYP CLUB Networking Director
Fall is upon us, and the weather and leaves have already begun to change. Our clocks have been set back as we begin to reflect upon the year, as the end of one is near and we prepare for the next. This is the time of year when we ceremoniously give thanks for all that has been given to us over the year.
Networking is all about exploring new opportunities and making connections with others that have this same common goal. An integral part of forging strong bonds through networking is the concept of reciprocity - a positive action receives another positive action, rewarding kind actions. It's called a "Giver's Gain" approach.
Charity Spotlight: Y.E.S! Columbus
Written by Chris Alexis, CYP CLUB Newsletter Coordinator
Young professional women should just say "YES!" to a certain opportunity to make a difference in their community. Founded in 2009, Y.E.S! Columbus (which stands for Young Executives for Success) is a volunteer branch of Dress for Success Columbus.
"Y.E.S! Columbus is composed of female professionals whose '9-to-5' jobs make it challenging to volunteer and connect directly with the clients being served by Dress for Success Columbus during the workday," says Amber Brandimore, president of the organization.
MOvember for MOlumbus
Written by Chet Ridenour, Co-Founder of STR8NOUT and Administrator at Short North Civic Association
The end of the year means shorter days, colorful falling leaves, and cooler weather. This is nature's signal to us men it's time to change styles. And I'm not just talking about your wardrobe (though hopefully CMH Fashion Week gave you some stylish new ideas - great job Tommy!). I'm talking about a facial and coordinating those hairs in a way that makes a statement.
So what do you get when you grow mustaches in November? Can you say Movember? ("Mo" is Australian slang for the mustache).
For the uninitiated, this month has unofficially become man month for swarms of facial hair enthusiasts around the world. Beginning in Australia in 2004, a brazen bunch of blokes began a movement that would spread across the world as "Mo Bros" grow mustaches, the forgotten staple of classic 70's stag flicks, in the hopes of "changing the face of men's health." Movember.com helps these facial philanthropist raise money on their website through fundraising campaigns and friendly competitions to fund medical research for the most common man-killers. According to their website, more than 854,000 participants registered worldwide last year while raising AUD 124 Million. And the group is poised to break the million-man mark this year. They claim to have sparked 1.9 billion conversations about Movember and men's health, directly leading to increased awareness and checkups among males.
Charity Spotlight: Habitat for Humanity
Interview by Chris Alexis, CYP CLUB Newsletter Coordinator
The housing crisis is something many young professionals still read about, and worse yet, others have probably experienced firsthand in some way. People losing their homes, foreclosure signs littering neighborhoods, and families struggling to put roofs over their heads continue to be haunting images and harsh realities.
Habitat for Humanity–MidOhio is doing what it can to help ease housing burdens on many families throughout our own community. This is yet another way for young professionals to roll up their sleeves, get to work, and help re-build the Central Ohio community in a lot of ways.
The CYP CLUB spoke with Leslie Turis, major gifts manager for Habitat for Humanity, for a little more information on what we can do to help.
Experiencing Columbus: Tim's Top Seven Ideas for November
Written by Tim Simeone, Visitor Services Specialist for Experience Columbus
By now your eye liner from Highball should be fading away. You've been rocked and cultured from all the awesome events going on in October. You might be thinking, "I can't go on. Isn't it time to hunker down and watch re-runs of Pretty Little Liars?" Below are events that trump the entire fall line–up to ABC Family! Yeah, I said it.
Nothing like two face-melting concerts to kick off the month. Passion Pit is playing at the LC on 11.3 and Red Wanting Blue, Columbus band, is playing at the Newport on 11.2. Don't stand too close to the rock or we won’t recognize you at the next CYP CLUB event.
