Rules for x2010 Fall Flag Football

The following are the rules and regulations that must be followed by every member of this league.

  1. GUIDELINES FOR CYP CLUB CO-ED FLAG FOOTBALL

There will be 4 teams of 12 players each, 7 players on the field for each team at all times with at least 2 of those individuals being girls. Captains will be responsible for making sure the right number of personnel is on the field.

Field of play will be 80 yards long with 2 10-yard end zones for a total of 100 yards. Cones (first down markers) will be placed every 20 yards on each side of the field. Cones will also serve as out-of-bounds markers. Each play (including punt) begins with a center "hike" snapped backwards and ends when ball touches ground on a pass or flag has been removed from the person with the football.

Penalties are called for the following infractions: Offsides, Delay of Game, Holding, Tripping, Roughing (i.e. tackling someone), and Offensive or Defensive Pass Interference. One Delay of Game warning will be given first before a penalty is called for that infraction. A team has 45 seconds from the end of the last play to begin a new play. Each penalty, if accepted by the offensive team, will result in a replay of that down. If penalty is accepted by defensive team, play will result in loss of down for the offense. Official may make a penalty call at any time before the next play is run.

Every scoring drive must have at least one reception or running play from a female participant. Failure to do so will result in the other team receiving the ball at its own 20-yard line.

Play will begin with the team kicking off the ball to the other team from its own 20-yard line. The other team may advance the ball until a flag has been removed from the receiver. Other teammates are allowed to block for the person who receives the ball.

The team on offense will have 4 tries or downs to advance the ball to the following first-down marker (cone). On fourth down they may elect to punt the ball by hiking ball to the punter (or fake punt) and kicking to the opposing team. If there is a failure to advance the ball to next first down marker after 4 downs, opposing team takes the ball at that spot heading the other direction. When ball is kicked out-of-bounds when punting, other team takes over at their own 40-yard line.

Each team must have a minimum of two players on the line, including one center who hikes the ball to the quarterback. The main job of the lineman is to protect the quarterback.

Each team may call one timeout per half. A team will have an additional minute of time in addition to the standard 45 seconds between each play.

Games will be played (1 point for each touchdown) until the 40 minutes of scheduled game time has elapsed. There will be 2 twenty-minute halves and one 5 minute halftime. Clock runs continuously, except during a timeout. Referee announces when there is 5 minutes left in a half, 2 minutes, 1 minute left, and calls off the last 10 seconds. A game may end in a tie. The referee keeps track of score during game as well records final result.

In the event of inclement weather, call CYP CLUB Flag Football Coordinator (Garrick Schindler) at 432-0858 to see whether play will continue or a postponement and rescheduling will take place. Captains from both teams are responsible for rescheduling the game by September 28 (latest start time is 6:50pm) and informing team members if a cancellation takes place. Also, contact Mr. Schindler to reschedule an official for the make-up game.

The CYP CLUB Flag Football Championship game and consolation game will occur on the last week of the season. A spot in the championship game will be based on the following factors, in order: 1) Overall record 2) Head-to-head competition 3) Overall points scored in season.
