About Shawnda
I was born in Columbus, Ohio and grew up a half hour northwest of Columbus in the Plain City/Marysville area. I went to a small high school, Fairbanks, where I graduated with only 80-something people. I ventured off to Athens, Ohio for college, and I loved every minute of my Ohio University (OU) experience. I majored in Broadcast News and had the chance to work for the college radio/tv station WOUB and was the Scripps College Intern at WCPO in Cincinnati before graduating. After college, I realized that I didn't want to be in the news business and began working as a program manger for Junior Achievement (JA) of Central Ohio. After a few years of program management, I moved into a role that focused on marketing, communications, development and special event planning. In May 2009, I began a new endeavor at Cardinal Health. I’m a Local Store Marketing Consultant that develops marketing plans and advertising materials for independent pharmacies across the nation.
During my tenure at JA, I became involved in the CYP CLUB and have really enjoyed working on the Date 2 Remember event with the wonderful committee. I also have been a Big Sis for Big Brothers Big Sisters for six years and enjoy doing various volunteer projects throughout the year with different organizations. I've been married to my husband Jonathan for five years and we enjoy playing volleyball and softball with friends in the spring and summer. We follow college football season in the fall and just try to stay warm in the winter! We also take a trip to Vegas each year and just enjoy hanging out with our friends and family year round.
What does Columbus offer young professionals?
Columbus is a big city with a small town feel. It's got a wide selection of industries/careers with nearly a million people, yet everyone seems to know everyone!
What do you hope members get out of their involvement in the CYP CLUB?
I hope that the CYP CLUB is able to develop young professionals into well rounded individuals by exposing them to many different areas like the arts, athletics, community service, social gatherings and career development.
What's your favorite CYP CLUB event and why?
A Date 2 Remember, of course, because it's amazing to see how many people turn out to give back to two local charities. The event has a ton of energy!
How would you describe Columbus?
A laid back town with a lot to offer people whatever they're looking to do.
