Columbus Young Professionals: Cornhole Tournament

THIS IS COLUMBUS

Columbus Young Professionals is the largest networking group in Columbus that brings together, get this: young, professionals. I know the name normally needs a bit of explanation. Anywho, they offer a ton of events from athletics to speakers but we decided to check out a more social event hosted at The Goat on Morse Road. This was a cornhole tournament that called for pre-registration, only $5 to register so it didn't break the bank. We hadn't signed up but there were a few openings so after a few taste tests from the beer station we decided we would probably win, so sign up we did. While waiting for our chance to show our skills we used our free drink tickets to grab a beer and because we're obviously celebrities we even had our photo snapped for Columbus Alive. Did we mention they were taking pictures of everyone? No? Check out the video to see if we dominated in the tourney then read our takes on this event below!

Courtney's Take:

Social networking... that's a bit more my style. Well actually I'm a smidge socially awkward but at least 1. It's normally not early in the am and 2. There is normally alcohol involved. I can handle that. This event was pretty cool, I'm really glad we got to play in the tournament, however I wish I had known ahead of time because I would've practiced. I never played cornhole until I got to Ohio so my skills are a a little lacking. I think I probably liked this even the most because it was on my side of town (near Easton) plus we got a free beer and the beer tasting station was awesome. I should have taken more advantage of that... I didn't want to be a mooch on the free beer so I only allowed our group to get one beer... I didn't think that through. There is definitely a different crowd that goes to CYP's more social events so it's nice to see that you won't be hanging out with the same people at every event. I still need to make some friends out in my area since I just moved away from OSU's campus so this was helpful with meeting new people.

Anita's Take:

Any networking event that involves alcohol will put anyone at ease, right? Once again, these things can be intimidating but everyone is very friendly and I had a good conversation with the guys we played cornhole with. After one beer, I'm usually a little more talkative (I'm what they call a "One beer queer") so it's great that they gave out beer samples (I loooove trying good beer) and we also had a ticket for one free drink (just a bud/miller). They also had pulled pork sandwiches from Bob Evans as a snack, which was gone fast and I didn't get one b/c we were busy playing *sad face*. This event was definitely more "social" than "networking" in my opinion. But overall it was still a lot of fun and it was just nice to relax and hangout without stressing over "hard-core" networking.
