Check out these fun volunteer & fundraising events going on in Columbus this week (Jan 30-Feb 5, 2017):

1. Volunteer at Columbus Blue Jackets Winter Park
When: Thru February 26 (many different shifts available)
Where: McFerson Commons (240 W. Nationwide Blvd. Columbus, OH)
Why: Over the weekend, the Columbus Blue Jackets kicked off their Winter Park event, which features an outdoor public ice skating rink to the Arena District through February. Be a part of the fun as a volunteer! Shifts are currently still open at the kid’s tubing hill, while volunteers can join a waitlist for a shift at the skate rental booth.

2. Make Blankets for Foster Kids
When: Monday, February 6 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Where: Chocolate Cafe (1855 Northwest Blvd. Columbus, OH 43212)
Why: Local social volunteerism group Columbus Gives Back will be hosting a Sip and (not) Sew meetup at the Chocolate Café this Monday evening. Volunteers can eat & drink chocolate treats while assembling no-sew fleece blankets that will be given to children in foster care through My Very Own Blanket. Guests can bring 2 yards of their own material or pay a small fee to be provided fabric.

3. Eat Chipotle for Big Brothers Big Sisters
When: Wednesday, February 8 during store hours
Where: All Columbus-area Chipotle restaurants
Why: Dine on your favorite burrito for a good cause this Wednesday as all Columbus-area Chipotle restaurants host a fundraiser for child mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio. 50% of all fundraiser sales will benefit the group; to make your order count, simply mention the fundraiser or follow the link below for a flyer to present to your cashier.

4. Package Condoms to Promote Safe Sex
When: Wednesday, February 8 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Ohio HIV/STI Hotline (4400 N High St. Columbus, OH 43214)
Why: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Ohio HIV/STI Hotline invites volunteers to join them this Wednesday to help package condoms and watch movies at their Cupid’s Condom Packaging Party. The condoms will eventually be mailed out by the Free Condom Project, an effort that distributes free protection to encourage safer sex and decreased HIV/STI rates & unplanned pregnancy in Ohio.

5. Play Games with YMCA Residents
When: Thursday, February 9 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: YMCA of Central Ohio (40 W. Long St. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Columbus Gives Back will also be hosting a Game Night this Thursday evening with the YMCA of Central Ohio. Volunteers will play a variety of board games with local supportive housing residents and are invited to go out for food, drinks, and socializing afterward.

6. Volunteer at a Kids’ Math Competition
When: Saturday, February 11 from 8:00am-12:00pm
Where: Columbus State Community College (550 E. Spring St. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: The Ohio Society of Professional Engineers will be hosting their annual regional MathCounts competition for middle schoolers this weekend, where bright students will test their skills in a variety of math problems and contests. The event is in need of volunteer graders and proctors to help hand out, monitor, and time tests.

7. Assist With a Special Olympics Basketball Competition
When: Saturday, February 11 from 8:15am-1:30pm
Where: Weaver Middle School (4600 Avery Rd. Hilliard, OH 43026)
Why: Special Olympics Area 6 is hosting a Basketball Skills Competition this weekend in Hilliard and invites volunteers to join. Assistant buddies will help athletes with disabilities as they compete in a series of activities and participate in an awards ceremony.
