1. Celebrate Columbus Kindness Month
When: The month of February
Where: All over Columbus
Why: Thanks to local philanthropy & volunteer organizations, The Columbus Foundation and Besa, February is now being celebrated as Columbus Kindness Month. Whether it’s through simple random acts of kindness, volunteer events, or making purchases at local businesses to benefit charity, this initiative encourages locals to support the community by giving back. Follow the link below for some ideas on how you can celebrate Kindness Month this week, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #GiveKindnessColumbus on social media!
2. Volunteer at Columbus Blue Jackets Winter Park
When: Thru February 26 (many different shifts available)
Where: McFerson Commons (230 West St, Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: The Columbus Blue Jackets Winter Park is an outdoor public ice skating rink in the Arena District that will be open to the public through the remainder of the month. Be a part of the fun as a volunteer! Shifts are currently still open at the kid’s tubing hill, while volunteers can join a waitlist for a shift at the skate rental booth.
3. Host an Activity Night for People with Disabilities
When: Wednesday, February 15 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Heinzerling Developmental Center (1755 Heinzerling Dr. Columbus, OH 4322)
Why: Social volunteerism group Columbus Gives Back will be hosting an activity night this Wednesday at the Heinzerling Foundation, a community of people with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will work closely with the facility’s residents, assisting with crafts, games, or other activities. Attendees are also invited to join CGB for food & drinks after the event.
4. Sell Raffle Tickets for Charity at a Blue Jackets Game
When: Friday, February 17 from 4:30pm-9:00pm
Where: Nationwide Arena (200 W. Nationwide Blvd. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: When they’re not on the hockey rink, the Columbus Blue Jackets are involved in many philanthropic efforts in the community through their CBJ Foundation. One of the group’s initiatives includes their 50/50 Raffle events, which allow local charities to raise funds at hockey games through raffle ticket sales. Volunteers are invited to help sell tickets at the next raffle this Friday evening during the Jackets' match against The Pittsburgh Penguins.
5. Volunteer or Participate in the Fight For Air Climb
When: Saturday, February 18 from 7:00am-11:00am
Where: Rhodes Tower (30 E. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Hundreds of athletes will take on all 40 floors and 880 steps of Columbus’ tallest skyscraper, Rhodes Tower this weekend at the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb. Participants’ registration plus monetary pledges they’ve collected will benefit the group’s cause to finding a cure for lung disease. Volunteers are also welcome to register.
6. Volunteer or Participate in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge at the Zoo
When: Saturday, February 18 from 10:30am-4:30pm
Where: The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium (4850 W Powell Rd. Powell, OH 43065)
Why: The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium will be hosting the 15th Annual Polar Plunge this Saturday, where daring fund-raisers take an icy cold winter swim for charity. Proceeds from this all-ages party will benefit Special Olympics Ohio, a nonprofit that provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for more than 23,000 adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Sign up to swim and start raising your pledges or enroll as a volunteer!

7. Go Bowling to Help Provide Affordable Housing
When: Sunday, February 19 from 1:00pm-4:00pm
Where: Columbus Square Bowling Palace (5707 Forest Hills Blvd. Columbus, OH 43231)
Why: Round up a team of friends and hit the lanes as Homeport Young Professionals hosts their All Ages Bowling Challenge this Sunday. Your team’s entry fee will include bowling, shoe rental, snacks, plus the chance to win door prizes and a raffle, with all proceeds benefiting Homeport. This local nonprofit is dedicated to decreasing homelessness and breaking the poverty cycle by developing & providing affordable housing around Central Ohio.
