Check out these fun volunteer & fundraising events going on in Columbus this week! (April 10-16)
1. Volunteer for Earth Day
When: Monday, April 10 – Saturday, April 15 (different shifts available throughout the week)
Where: All over Columbus
Why: Earth Day will fall on this coming Saturday, and with the weather warming up, this week is a perfect time to give back to Mother Nature. Throughout the week, there are a plethora of opportunities for volunteers to get their hands dirty with gardening and beautification projects across the community. 2. Eat a Happy Meal to benefit the Foodbank
When: All April
Where: All participating Columbus McDonald’s locations
Why: Indulge in some fast food this week to help end hunger in the community. For the month of April, all area McDonald’s restaurants will make a donation to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank for each Happy Meal® sold.
3. Take a dance lesson for turbans for Cancer patients
When: Tuesday, April 11 from 7:00pm-10:00pm
Where: The Boat House Restaurant (679 West Spring St. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Every Tuesday, Next Level Dance Academy opens up the floor at The Boat House at Confluence Park for their Baila Rico Salsa Tuesdays, a series of Latin dance lessons that benefit charity. Join the fun at this lively event this week to dance and donate to The Turban Project, a non-profit that crafts handmade turbans for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
4. Volunteer at the Broad Street Food Pantry
When: Thursday, April 13 from 5:30pm-7:30pm
Where: Broad Street Food Pantry (760 E. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43205)
Why: The fun-meets-philanthropy group Columbus Gives Back is calling volunteers together to help provide food to local families in need at the Broad Street Food Pantry. Volunteers will work one-on-one with clients shopping at the pantry, stock shelves, set-up and clean-up, and other duties.
5. Volunteer at the 2017 AIDS Walk
When: Thursday, April 13 - Saturday, April 15 (different shifts available)
Where: Locations vary
Why: The annual AIDS Walk Central Ohio returns this weekend to raise awareness and funds for various HIV/AIDS service organizations with a 5k run/walk and 20-mile bike ride. Volunteers are still needed to help at the event, with slot still available for duties including setup/tear-down, truck loading, parking attendance, and more.
6. Compete in a Volleyball Tournament for charity
When:Friday, April 14 from 6:00pm-11:59pm
Where: Woodlands Backyard (668 Grandview Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43215)
Why: The beach volleyball courts are re-opening at Grandview bar Woodlands Backyard for the season and will be taken over by the OSU Inter-Professional Council this weekend for their annual Volleyball tournament. For a small fee, players can register as a team to compete on the courts and enjoy pizza and drink specials at the bar. All proceeds will benefit a charity to be voted on by all participants at the event.
7. Volunteer at the Hilliard KidsFest & Bunny Run
When: Saturday, April 15 (different shifts available)
Where: Franklin County Fairgrounds (4100 Columbia St, Hilliard, OH 43026)
Why: KidsLinked .com invites volunteers to join them for a day of family fun at their Hilliard Kidsfest & Bunny Run this weekend. The celebration will include the 5K, 1M, 1/2M, and 1/4M Bunny Run, a Beauty & the Bunny Breakfast, a candy & egg hunt, video game room and bounce houses, crafts, and plenty of other activities, plus a summer camp expo for parents. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hilliard Optimist Club, a nonprofit volunteer-driven group that provides athletic & academic services to youth in the community.
