Check out these fun volunteer & fundraising events going on in Columbus this week! (May 15-21)

1. Grab drinks for children’s education
When: Monday, May 15 from 5:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Land-Grant Brewing (424 W Town St, Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Columbus Craft Beer Week is in full swing, with dozens of brew-themed events around town each day of the week. Make this boozy week count by joining Columbus Early Learning Centers for their Cocktails for the Kids bash at Land-Grant Brewing on Monday evening. 20% of all drink sales during this happy hour hangout will benefit CELC’s efforts in providing affordable educational programs for local kids & families.

2. Bake cookies for Ronald McDonald House kids & families
When: Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Ronald McDonald House (711 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43205)
Why: Local social volunteerism group Columbus Gives Back will be hosting a cookie-baking & decorating social this Tuesday at the Ronald McDonald House kitchen, with all treats going to the families of children with serious medical conditions staying at the facility. Volunteers will need to bring their own cookie dough; icing will be provided.

3. Dine on gourmet food to end children’s hunger
When: Wednesday, May 17 from 6:00pm-9:00pm
Where: The Bluestone (583 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: The Children’s Hunger Alliance invites area YPs to join them for their 15th Annual Taste to Remember Columbus event this Wednesday evening. This culinary affair will include gourmet chef-prepared food from local restaurants, cocktails, live music, raffle, and a live auction, with proceeds going towards the Alliance’s efforts to provide nutritious meals to at-risk children in Ohio.

4. Volunteer at a Dance Party for people with disabilities
When: Friday, May 19 from 6:30pm-9:30pm
Where: West Central School (1481 W. Town St, Columbus, OH 43223)
Why: Because I said I would is a social movement dedicated to the betterment of humanity with the making & keeping of promises and through local volunteerism. Join the group this Friday night as they help out with a dance party for adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers at this high-energy celebration will help with set-up/tear-down, serving refreshments, and of course, hitting the dance floor with around 100 attendees.

5. Volunteer at the Asian Festival Dragon Boat Races
When: Saturday, May 20 – Sunday, May 21
Where: West Bank Park (181 Washington Blvd Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: As a part of the annual Asian Festival, each year the city hosts a day of traditional Dragon Boat Races on the Scioto River, a celebration which will return this weekend. Volunteers are needed to help with this fun cultural event working with racers as Boat Marshals, assisting with Traffic & Parking, or helping at the Volunteer Check-In Booth.

6. Volunteer or participate in the 25th Annual Race for the Cure
When: Morning of Saturday, May 20
Where: Downtown, Columbus
Why: One of the largest charity runs in Columbus is by far the Susan G. Komen Columbus Race for the Cure, an effort to raise funds for breast cancer research and services. Over the years, the event has raised millions of dollars for the cause in Columbus alone, with thousands of racers and volunteers taking part each year. The race will return for its 25th year this Saturday, inviting members of the community to get involved by entering the race & collecting pledges, or by volunteering.

7. Attend or volunteer at the Art for Franklinton fundraiser
When: Saturday, May 20 from 6:00pm-10:30pm
Where: The Idea Foundry (421 W State St, Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Get a taste of the city’s thriving creative community this weekend as the Franklinton Arts District hosts its annual Art for Franklinton fundraiser. At this event, guests will have the chance to bid in an auction of art pieces made during last year’s Urban Scrawl live-painting festival, with proceeds benefiting the George Bellows Grant Program, which supports arts & culture in the Franklinton neighborhood. Volunteers are also currently needed to assist with various tasks at the event.
