Check out these fun volunteer & fundraising events going on in Columbus this week! (June 5-11)

1. Visit senior citizens with Alzheimer’s
When: Wednesday, June 7 from 6:00pm-7:30pm
Where: Volunteerism organization Besa invites area young professionals to join them and the Alzheimer’s Association Junior Committee this week as they visit a local nursing home. The group will chat and play games with elderly residents impacted by Alzheimer’s as a way to brighten their day and stimulate their minds

2. Paint a mural & drink wine to benefit Goodwill Columbus
When: Thursday, June 8 from 4:30pm-8:00pm
Where: Goodwill Columbus Art Studio & Gallery (1331 Edgehill Rd. Columbus, OH 43212)
Why: Get creative for a cause with Servpro of NE Columbus this week as they host a Wine & Canvas painting party at the Goodwill Columbus Art Studio. Participants will paint a pre-drawn mural art piece which will later be sold to raise funds for Goodwill. Pizza from Bucca De Peppo will also be provided and alcoholic beverages are welcome.

3. Play games with YMCA residents
When: Thursday, June 8 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: YMCA of Central Ohio (40 W. Long St. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: YP volunteer group, Columbus Gives Back will be hosting a Game Night this Thursday evening with the YMCA of Central Ohio. Volunteers will play a variety of board games with local supportive housing residents and are invited to go out for food, drinks, and socializing afterward.

4. Volunteer at the Arts Festival
When: Friday, June 9 – Sunday, June 11
Where: The Scioto Mile (233 S Civic Center Dr. Columbus, OH 43215)
Why: Festival season is in full swing, with one of the largest and most favored celebrations hitting the Scioto Mile this weekend. Back for its 56th year, the Columbus Arts Festival will include over 300 artists, 6 stages of live entertainment, food, and much more. Volunteers are needed to help at this not-to-miss bash, with a wide variety of duties available including decorating, leading interactive crafts & activities, assisting stage performers, and much more.

5. Park bikes at the Buckeye Country Superfest
When: Saturday, June 10 – Sunday, June 11
Where: Ohio Stadium (411 Woody Hayes Dr, Columbus, OH 43210)
Why: Cycling advocacy group, Yay Bikes! understands just how difficult (and expensive) it’ll be to park at this weekend’s Buckeye Country Superfest. As a way to encourage festgoers to ditch their vehicles, the organization will be offering free bike parking at the event and is inviting volunteers to join them.

6. Volunteer at the Riverfest! kayak excursion for disadvantaged youth
When: Saturday, June 10 – Sunday, June 11
Where: Bicentennial Park Access Point (233 Civic Center Dr. Columbus, Ohio 43215)
Why: HERO USA, Inc. is a nonprofit that provides outdoor recreation opportunities to under-resourced youth in the Columbus community. This weekend, the group’s community outreach program, Paddle in the City, is teaming up with the Columbus Parks & Rec Department to host Riverfest!, a kayak & canoe excursion on the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers. Participants of all backgrounds will gain an appreciation for the city’s waterways & natural resources while getting a great view of the Arts Festival from the river.

7. Volunteer at the Fetch a Friend Pet Adopt-a-Thon
When: Saturday, June 10 – Sunday, June 11
Where: Ohio Expo Center, Lausche Building (717 E 17th Ave. Columbus, OH 43211)
Why: Hundreds of furry friends will make a visit to the state fairgrounds this weekend as animal welfare organization, Save Ohio Pets hots their 3rd annual Fetch a Friend Adopt-a-Thon. This event will give visitors a chance to meet and adopt animals from over 50 different rescues & shelters while also raising funds for spay/neuter, microchip, and other pet programs. Volunteers are invited to join the event and will help with various tasks like handling and feeding the animals, stuffing goodie bags, set-up/tear down, and more.
